SOPHIA FOR CHILDREN “OPENS ITS HEART” AT A.G. LEVENTIS GALLERY

One hundred artworks by Cypriot artists will be on display at A.G. Leventis Gallery between February 12 and 18 as part of an exhibition entitled “Sophia with love”. The exhibition aims to raise funds in support of the initiative “Sophia for Children” in Kenya and in Cyprus. The event takes place on the occasion of Valentine’s Day and is organised by A.G. Leventis Gallery and the “Sophia for Children” in cooperation with Partners VMLY&R communications agency.

Within the framework of the exhibition, one hundred local artists were asked to “open their hearts” and channel their creativity and inspiration into artworks on heart shaped stones. The stones, one for each artist, were carved by people in Kenya and were transferred to Cyprus to be transformed into works of art by local artists for the foundation’s fundraising efforts.

Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to not only admire these unique works of art but also purchase them, as all hearts will be made available for purchase through an auction with a starting price of €100 each. All proceeds will go towards the fundamental improvement of the living conditions and the education of thousands of children in Kenya and in Cyprus through “Sophia for Children”.

Within the framework of events taking place as part of the “Sophia with love” exhibition, “Sophia for Children” volunteers along with the gallery’s nursery teachers will organise children’s workshops where children will be able to spend their time creatively, engaging in art and music activities. Places for the workshops are limited and therefore anyone interested should email education@lenevtisgallery.org or call 22668838 /ext. 105 or 109 to secure a place for their children. The participation fee for one child is €10 and includes free parking.

“Sophia for Children” is a non-governmental charity organisation founded with the aim to help fight poverty and its repercussions concentrating on the most vulnerable of all social groups, the children. In Kenya the main fields of action are education, safety and care as well as provision of healthcare. In Cyprus, the program “I Cook and I Offer” operates in 16 all-day primary and nursery schools offering lunch to children on a daily basis.

The exhibition “Sophia with Love” is being supported by the official sponsor of the “Sophia for Children”, Phileleftheros Publishing House, and the hospitality sponsor A.G. Leventis Gallery. Also, Travel Express has provided a valuable service by safely transporting many of the hearts from all over Cyprus to the exhibition and Kailas Printers generously offered pro-bono printing of all the printed material for the event.

Partners VMLY&R has been a proud supporter of “Sophia for Children” for almost 10 years and has been offering pro bono communications services as well as co-organisation of major fund raising events, with “Sophia with love” being the latest.
